The US Embassy and Consulates in Turkey announced in connection with the US recognition of the so-called “Armenian genocide” that they will be closed on Monday and Tuesday as a “precautionary measure” due to possible protests
“Demonstrations or protests may take place after the White House’s statement on April 24 in memory of those killed during the“ Armenian genocide ”in the Ottoman era. As a precautionary measure, the US Embassy Ankara, US Consulate General Istanbul, US Consulate Adana, and US Consular Agency Izmir will be closed for daily service and visa support for US citizens on Monday April 26th and Tuesday April 27th. ” said in a press release.
The diplomatic service also advised US citizens to avoid areas around US government buildings and “exercise extreme caution in places where Americans or foreigners may congregate.”
