Ukraine will not become part of NATO, the issue of Kyiv’s accession to the alliance is not up for discussion. This was stated by the US President’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg.

“We have stated very clearly: NATO is not up for discussion. Ukraine will not become part of NATO. This is not a new idea. We have been talking about this since 2008, when [US Ambassador to Russia in 2005-2008 William] Burns told [US Secretary of State in 2005-2009] Condoleezza Rice that this was an unattainable goal,” Kellogg said on the Fox News channel.

Earlier, US leader Donald Trump said that despite President Volodymyr Zelensky’s desire for Ukraine to join NATO, this will never happen.

As Bloomberg reported earlier, on Thursday Washington presented its allies in Paris with proposals for a peaceful settlement between Russia and Ukraine. Among them is a refusal to discuss Kyiv’s membership in NATO and the easing of sanctions against Russia.
