The United States is ready to impose secondary duties of up to 100% on countries that continue to buy Russian oil despite the current sanctions. This was stated by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in an interview with CNBC.
“We don’t know what the term will be: 10, 30 or 50 days, but any country that buys Russian oil under sanctions will be subject to secondary duties of up to 100%,” Bessent said.
According to him, the White House views duties as a means of achieving foreign policy goals, and in this approach, the Donald Trump administration has secured the support of the Senate. “Now the US Senate agrees with President Trump that duties are a means of achieving political goals. This is revolutionary. President Trump has changed the tone of the discussion,” the minister emphasized.
