India has criticized the United States and the European Union for trade with Russia amid President Donald Trump’s demands that New Delhi stop buying Russian oil. The corresponding statement by the Indian Foreign Ministry was published on the X social network.
The ministry said that India began buying Russian energy resources because traditional suppliers redirected their oil to Europe after the start of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. The Foreign Ministry emphasized that during that period, the United States “actively encouraged” India to buy oil from Russia “to strengthen the stability of global markets.”
The Indian Foreign Ministry also noted that the trade turnover between the United States and the European Union with Russia significantly exceeds the volume of Russian-Indian trade. “It is noteworthy that the very countries that criticize India themselves continue to trade with Russia. Unlike our case, their trade is not dictated by vital national needs,” the Indian Foreign Ministry said.
