The EU countries are considering the possibility of introducing sanctions against third countries that help Russia bypass existing restrictions. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the situation.
Lawyers from certain EU countries providing legal services to Russia’s shadow fleet companies are also set to be included in the sanctions list.”
It is noted that the heads of the EU foreign ministries will meet at the end of this week in Copenhagen to discuss the details of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. The EU foreign ministers are going to discuss the use of the Anti-Coercion Instrument, which will help counteract the circumvention of sanctions.
Thanks to it, the EU will be able to ban the export of certain goods to third countries that are believed to help Russia bypass restrictions.
As Bloomberg sources note, within the framework of the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions, the EU countries are also considering restrictions against the oil and gas and financial sectors of Russia.
The restrictions of the 18th package affected 18 individuals and 41 legal entities. It also included a ban on the sale of petroleum products from Russian raw materials, direct sanctions against the Indian Vadinar refinery, restrictions for 22 Russian banks and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and a complete ban on any transactions with Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2.
