The oil tanker Spartan, which is subject to EU and UK sanctions, arrived on Sunday at the unloading dock in the Indian port of Mundra, which handles fuel deliveries for HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd. According to Bloomberg, sourced from internal agency contacts and analytical firms Kpler and Vortexa, the ship is carrying around 1 million barrels of Russian oil.

Bloomberg analysts note that the tanker could become one of the last sanctioned vessels delivering Russian oil to Indian ports managed by Adani Group. Last week, the company announced a ban on accepting ships under EU, UK, or US sanctions at Mundra port. Exceptions were only made for vessels that were already en route.
According to Vortexa data, in the first eight months of the year, Mundra port received an average of about 180,000 barrels of Russian oil per day, which accounts for approximately 11% of India’s total oil import volume, which is 1.6 million barrels per day.
Currently, US authorities are closely analyzing Adani Group’s activities. The US Department of Justice is conducting an investigation to determine possible violations of sanctions and the import of Iranian liquefied petroleum gas by the company.
