An explosion occurred at the Lukoil oil refinery located in the Romanian city of Ploiești, according to Romanian TV channel Digi24.

“The explosion, which was not accompanied by a fire, took place inside the facility of an economic operator on Mihai Bravu Street, in the municipality of Ploiești,” the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations stated. It was reported that one person was injured in the incident.

“We arrived with a mobile intensive care unit to assess, treat, and transport a 57-year-old man who was conscious and suffered a craniofacial injury and trauma to his left leg,” the agency said.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the explosion occurred on the premises of the Petrotel Lukoil refinery. The injured man was promptly taken to a local emergency care unit.

According to Romanian media, maintenance and overhaul work had been underway at the refinery platform for several days prior to the incident.
