The European Parliament will discuss the work of the economist while the PACE deputies adopt a declaration
The imprisoned chairman of the Azerbaijan Democracy and Welfare Party (ADR), professor Gubad Ibadoglu, was released from prison. The Narimanov District Court issued a decision on this on April 22.
According to the court’s decision, Gubad Ibadoglu was released under house arrest.
Gubad Ibadoglu, an employee of the London School of Economics, was detained on July 23 and charged with Article 204.3.1 of the Criminal Code (when the production, acquisition or sale of counterfeit money or securities is committed by an organized group). The next day, the Narimanov District Court chose a pretrial detention measure of 3 months and 26 days.
On the day Gubad Ibadoglu was detained, 40,000 dollars were found in the office, and part of it is allegedly fake.
However, the chairman of ADR said that the money did not belong to him and that they placed it there themselves and then took it away.
On August 25, a new charge was announced against him under Article 167-3.1 (Preparation, storage, distribution of religious extremist materials) of the Criminal Code. Gubad Ibadoglu said that this accusation was also absurd and refused to testify as a sign of protest.
On the day of his arrest, Gubad Ibadoglu said that he was arrested on the orders of President Ilham Aliyev when he was removed from the place after the search.
Before the economist was released to house arrest, his daughter Jala Bayramova appealed to the public. He said that his father’s health is very bad.
Jala Bayramova said that Gubad Ibadoglu’s health has already deteriorated. During the last 9 months of his imprisonment, his father’s blood sugar does not go down, and as a result, his toenails turn black:
