German customs have confiscated the tanker Eventin, which had previously lost control, along with almost 100,000 tons of oil on board. This was reported on March 21 by the Der Spiegel newspaper.

The tanker was initially heading north from the island of Rügen. Due to the threat of an oil leak, it was towed to the waters near the city of Sassnitz and was monitored by the coast guard and federal police.

According to the publication, the German government held active negotiations on what to do with this vessel before making the decision to confiscate it. Oil worth €40 million is now becoming the property of Germany.

Earlier, on January 10, a tanker under the Panamanian flag that had lost control, with 99,000 tons of oil on board, was discovered off the coast of Germany in the Baltic Sea. It was noted that the crew did not need to be evacuated. A reconnaissance aircraft was sent to the area where the vessel was drifting.
