The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on three Russian organizations and eight individuals. The lists were published on the website of the Foreign Office in London on Wednesday, September 3. According to the Foreign Office, the new sanctions are aimed at those who support “the forced ideological processing of Ukrainian children that exists in Russia.”
In particular, the British sanctions list includes the mother of the head of Chechnya, Aimani Kadyrova, and the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation. The updated list also includes the pro-Kremlin youth organizations “Movement of the First” and “Volunteers of Victory”, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Leyla Fazleeva, head of the federal youth center Valery Mayorov, Chechen commander of a special police unit Zamid Chalayev, deputy director of the department of state policy in the field of “protection of children’s rights” of the Russian Ministry of Education Anastasia Akkuratova and several Russian officials involved in the abduction and removal of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation. The law on the creation of the Movement of the First organization was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in the summer of 2022, about six months after Russia unleashed an aggressive war against Ukraine. According to Putin, in 2025 it included more than 11 million people. Ramzan Kadyrov’s mother, Aimani, is the president of the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation, which is engaged in sending humanitarian aid to residents of the “new regions of Russia” (occupied regions of Ukraine – Ed.)
Other recent UK sanctions against Russia
Two weeks earlier, London imposed sanctions against financial structures, including Kyrgyz cryptocurrency networks, which, according to it, are used by Moscow to bypass Western sanctions. The new penalties concern three individuals and five legal entities, and are also aimed at a certain A7A5 infrastructure – a cryptocurrency tied to the ruble, but launched in Kyrgyzstan. According to British data, $9.3 billion (8 billion euros) were transferred to A7A5 on orders from the Russian Federation in four months.
On June 17, the UK authorities announced the expansion of the sanctions list against 20 Russian vessels, six companies or institutions and four individuals actively involved in supporting Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. In particular, the list included JSC Atlas (UGMK-INVEST), Metallurg LLC, Orion Star Group, Rosneft Marine (UK) Ltd and the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research of the Russian Ministry of Defense
