The sanctioned Russian vessel Mys Zhelaniya has delivered military cargo to the Libyan coast under the protection of a naval warship.

According to information sent to the editorial office of Eurasianews, satellite images of the Port of Tobruk confirm that the delivery took place there.

The voyage of Mys Zhelaniya was closely monitored from the moment it departed the Russian port of Baltiysk, where it was escorted by a Project 1155 Udaloy-class large anti-submarine warfare ship. The use of a warship of this class as an escort suggests the high strategic value of the cargo, which is likely intended to support Russia’s so-called “African Corps” operating in the region.

Although Mys Zhelaniya concealed its destination port in navigation systems, analysis of its recorded route and prior intelligence confirmed that the unloading occurred in Tobruk.

At the same time, another sanctioned Russian vessel, Sparta IV, is heading toward the Syrian port of Tartus. There is a high probability that Sparta IV is also transporting military equipment, as both vessels initially departed Baltiysk together under naval escort before later diverging.

Sparta IV traditionally declares an Egyptian port as its destination, while its actual course frequently leads to Tartus, which hosts a Russian military base.

As of January 9, 2026, the Russian convoy was located south of the Portuguese coast.

Both vessels are owned by companies directly involved in advancing Russia’s military and energy interests. Sparta IV is owned by SK-Yug, a subsidiary of the sanctioned company Oboronlogistika, which specializes in supplying Russia’s Ministry of Defense.

Mys Zhelaniya, in turn, is owned by the sanctioned construction firm Transstroy, a key contractor for large-scale Russian energy projects in the Arctic and northern regions.
