The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on 17 tankers allegedly linked to Iran’s shadow fleet as part of its campaign to increase economic pressure on Tehran.
The vessels have reportedly been involved in transporting Iranian oil and petroleum products, helping Iran generate revenue despite existing sanctions.
The measures aim to disrupt Iran’s oil export networks, restrict financial transactions linked to sanctioned vessels and companies, and put additional pressure on Tehran’s energy sector.
The sanctions could also affect shipping companies, vessel owners, insurers and other maritime service providers involved in transactions with the targeted tankers. The move may create further uncertainty in global oil markets, although its impact on prices will depend on broader supply and demand conditions.
The latest action underscores Washington’s continued efforts to curb Iran’s oil revenues and tighten enforcement against networks suspected of helping the country circumvent sanctions.
